Sam Bassetti continued his incredible run of NorCal racing success with a win Saturday at the classic Pescadero Road Race. He was supported during the race by Chris HD, Torey Philipp, and Jacob Albrecht. Here’s how it went down.
The race consists of 5 20-mile laps, for a total of just over 100 miles. The course has 2 small climbs and a large finishing climb that the racers tackle each lap. On the first lap a group of 5 got away on the smaller climbs. We were represented by Sam, and he was joined by Reikert and Kilun of Mikes Bikes, young up and coming stud racer Sam Anderson Moxley of Cycle Sport, and one other racer (I forget who!). They worked together immediately and began pulling hard to maintain their advantage on a strong chasing field behind. The field never gave up, and kept them close the entire race.
On the 4th lap Gavin Murray of Storck and Sam Bronstein of Mikes Bikes bridged up to the group. After that some attacks began and Reikert was dropped on the smaller climbs. Coming into the feed zone, Bronstein attacked and Sam clawed him back. Roman was popped off, and the rest went into the finishing climb together. Cam surge repeatedly while Bassetti rode steadily to claw him back. Within the last 100 meters Sam was able to kick hard and get the win!
